The consumer guide is a very simple booklet that classifies fish into three colour categories based on the status of the stock. You can keep it in your wallet or handbag and take it with you whenever you are shopping for fish.
The classification was made by fisheries scientists at the Environment Agency, Abu Dhabi. It is based on stock assessment studies that have been carried out on each species included in the list. The red, orange and green colour codes follow the same principle as the traffic light system to indicate which fish are the best choices. Here's what you need to remember:
Kofar adults are easily recognized as they have a large hump on their head. They occur over a large range of habitats and can be found at depths of up to 100m!
